Environmental Technology sector network
KUMAS, the Bavarian environmental competence centre, integrates and bundles all important competencies from science, economy, education, administration and politics. All important competencies of the region work together with ca. 170 partners in the largest company network of the environmental sector in Bavaria. The branch is situated in Augsburg.
The European offices of the World Environment Center, a network of 40 multinational companies with Headquarters in New York, is situated on site, too.
Application centres and technology transfer
The know-how spectrum in the field of research in A³ is well established and versatile. Company partners are for instance the "Anwenderzentrum Material- und Umweltforschung (AMU)" of the University of Augsburg or the "Bayerische Institut für Angewandte Umweltforschung und -technik (BIfA)" in the field of R&D services. The entire spectrum of university research is at the disposal of companies via the technology transfer offices of the University and the University of Applied Sciences.

The universities in A³ have clear focal points in the fields of Environmental Technology. The research spectrum of the University, which spans from material sciences through environmental management to environmental legislation, is bundled in the Environmental Scientific Centre ("WZU") and is made accessible for companies. The University of Applied Sciences relies on engineering-scientific accents with courses of study like Environmental end Chemical Technology or Energy and Vehicle Technology.
Business start-up
The Environmental Technology Founder Centre ("Umwelttechnologische Gründerzentrum UTG"), in the midst of the Augsburg environmental mile, with ideal infrastructure for young technology companies, is unique in Germany. Currently ca. 40 companies with almost 200 employees are active in the centre. The UTG does not only offer opportune facilities and infrastructure, but also a bundle of services for start-up businesses.

Because of the high concentration of companies and scientific institutions in the economic area of Augsburg, A³ disposes of a huge potential of qualified successor, specialist and management manpower. Besides the University and University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, the close-by Educational Centre for Environmental Protection Lauingen, also contributes to qualification of specialists in the field of further training.
Numerous conventions, trade fairs and specialist events in the environmental competence centre A³ allow continuous qualification.
