The Augsburg economic region boasts a high concentration of highly skilled workforce. The city of Augsburg has the largest labour market, followed by the districts of Augsburg and Aichach-Friedberg. The district of Augsburg in particular has seen a significant increase in the number of employees subject to social insurance contributions over many years. The unemployment rates in the districts of Augsburg and Aichach-Friedberg show that there is almost full employment there.
Housing Development for the future
Housing in Augsburg new construction projects thanks to influx of skilled labour. In order to meet the increasing demand for living space, several residential construction projects are currently in the planning stage. The largest ones include the plans in Augsburg-Oberhausen (former Zeuna-Stärker site), parts of the railway park and a "Bayernheim am Lech" project. One of the largest urban development projects in Germany is to be realised with the Haunstetten-West urban district: according to current plans, new residential units for at least 10,000 people and jobs for at least 5,000 employees are to be created here by 2050.
Quality of life Tradition & innovation
Augsburg is one of the oldest cities in Germany and at the same time has its finger on the pulse of the times. This mix of tradition and innovation creates a high quality of life. Since 2019, for example, Augsburg has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List with its historic water management system. The sporting events of FC Augsburg, the canoeists on the Olympic canoe slalom course, the ice hockey players of the Augsburg Panthers and other events also regularly inspire locals and guests. There is plenty of greenery around Augsburg and the proximity to the Alps is a plus not only in winter.
