As the central point of contact at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences (THA), the Institute for Technology and Knowledge Transfer (ITW) coordinates collaboration between academia and industry – across faculties and on an interdisciplinary basis. A wide range of research activities is carried out at THA: this includes both independent research projects and collaborations with businesses, society and other academic institutions within larger networks.
In doing so, the THA addresses a wide range of societal challenges, varying in scope and depth. Depending on the nature and complexity of the issues and problems, work is carried out either in small teams or in collaboration with partners. The need for research is identified in close consultation with the regional business community.

Promoting collaboration between academia and industry
The ITW is your expert in publicly funded research and knowledge transfer projects, as well as in successful project management. It supports you in initiating, planning and implementing collaboration and knowledge transfer projects. The aim is to establish contact with the right research partners who are suited to your specific research question. Furthermore, the ITW forges links with network partners, opinion leaders and other research institutions. We place great emphasis on close collaboration with companies and organisations in the region, as this forms the basis of our approach to knowledge transfer. To further promote knowledge transfer, the ITW also offers part-time study programmes.
Among other things, the ITW is a member of the TEA network of transfer centres in the Augsburg region, which is open to collaboration with businesses.

- Access to measurement, testing and laboratory facilities
- Advice and support in initiating a collaborative project, including drafting contracts
- Advice and support regarding the development, testing and introduction of new technologies and products
- Assessment of the project for funding opportunities, including the matching of collaboration partners
