The Application Centre supports the transfer of technology and knowledge, particularly from the Institutes of Physics (IfP) and Materials Resource Management (MRM), to industry, society and the economy. To achieve these objectives comprehensively, the AMU is organised into two scientific divisions: ‘Contract Analysis and Engineering (AAE) & Projects’ and ‘STEM Education (MINT_Bildung)’. Its activities focus on collaboration with industry, ensuring the regional promotion of young talent in STEM subjects, and establishing efficient and innovative transfer structures.

Contract Analysis and Engineering (AAE) & Projects

In the field of contract analysis, the AMU offers a wide range of physical and chemical analytical methods and expertise in materials science. Its areas of specialisation include:

STEM Education

In the field of STEM education, the focus of activities lies on collaboration with industry, ensuring the promotion of young STEM talent at a regional level, and establishing efficient and innovative knowledge transfer structures.

  • The application for, coordination and implementation of STEM education projects and projects aimed at involving the wider community in technology transfer.
  • The running of the DLR_School_Lab at the University of Augsburg (for pupils from Year 6 onwards on various STEM topics).
  • The design and delivery of teacher training programmes, as well as the development of innovative teaching and learning scenarios for new technologies.
  • Promoting the formation of regional STEM networks.

Profile of the Application Centre for Materials and Environmental Research

 

The Application Centre for Materials and Environmental Research (AMU) was founded on the initiative of professors from the Institute of Physics and with the support of the Free State of Bavaria. Its partners include research institutions, schools, educational bodies, chambers of commerce, associations and companies from a wide range of sectors.

The primary aim of the AMU is to make the expertise of the Institute of Physics (IfP) and the Institute of Materials Resource Management (MRM), as well as other institutes at the University of Augsburg in the fields of mathematics, natural sciences and technology, available to society, particularly to industry. The development and maintenance of this two-way knowledge transfer is intended to expand the institutes’ competence and expertise in application-relevant fields and to strengthen partners from society and industry.

Among other things, the AMU is a member of the TEA network of transfer centres in the Augsburg region, which is open to collaboration with businesses.
